The Functions Of Grease Interceptor Tanks

The kitchen is the space where food gets cooked, and it is the same space where fats, oils, greases are found. If you talk about commercial kitchens, then you are left with no words! This is where grease inceptor tanks are used. The Grease Interceptor Tanks in Saskatchewan collects wastewater clogged with FOG (fats, oils, greases) from all the appliances for the kitchen and treats the water before it drains into the municipal water system. Thus, it does not allow the municipal water system to get clogged as it differentiates the grease layer from the wastewater.

The systematic working of a grease interceptor tank

In commercial kitchens, food is being cooked continuously, hence, producing continuous FOG. It would have been tough to deal with this issue if grease interceptor tanks were not there!

Halfway up of the tank, there lies a pipe through which water enters the grease inceptor. The solid wastes like food debris sink and accumulate as sediments below the tank. The fats, oils and grease float to the top because they are lighter than water. Now when the substantial wastes and greasy parts get separated from water, the clean water flows out through a pipe located in the middle of the tank. The top fatty layer is often removed with the help of a skimmer and deposited in a repository just beside the unit. The solid debris also gets cleaned at a specific interval of time.

Signing off

The Grease Interceptor Tanks in Saskatchewan are of great use to society as an ideal solution to treat wastewater. The creation of such environment-friendly equipment should be encouraged.
